If you are interesting in learning about aerial photography without the bother and expense of renting your own full-size aircraft, then multi-rotor copters are the best thing going.... but the cost of entry even there can be pricey; $1000-$3000 to get a basic platform. A steep price for something you might just like to learn on or play around with.

This is where DJI has done a great job of creating a low-end but feature-rich entry platform, using the same basic autopilot features they put on their much more expensive commercial multi-copters. The Phantom uses energy-efficient motors and a GPS-enabled onboard computer to make flying this a breeze, even in a modest breeze. Add your own GoPro and a vibration isolation mount and you can create amazing videos after just a few flights.

The biggest thing to remember is that while Lithium-Polymer battery efficiency has brought a lot of new flexibility to all-electric R/C flying, they are still power-limited... a Phantom with just your GoPro can fly for 10-12 minutes on a battery charge, but then you'll need to take a good while (45 minutes, perhaps) to recharge that battery. So you're going to want to have extra batteries; many folks I know take a half-dozen batteries with them for an afternoon of flying.

Like most cool hobbies, the biggest danger is to your wallet - batteries, an improved charger, maybe an upgraded transmitter/receiver combo, and then computer-controlled stabilizing gimbals mean you can go hog wild with a Phantom over time. Enjoy!

I spent a lot of time convincing myself that 15 minutes of flight was enough time, that I enjoy tv shows shorter than that. Well, it turns out I actually only get about 10-13 minutes flight time and they are the greatest minutes of my life!

Would recommend to anyone even considering getting an Phantom.

This is a must have man toy! I just ordered 3 more batteries so I don't have to wait for for batteries to charge. This thing is also very durable and can take a beating from a rusty pilot. I've crashed this thing props down in the dirt at least a dozen times and have yet to break a prop. The flight orientation takes a few flights to get used to and I recommend you start out in GPS mode to get a little help from the satellites. The video footage you can get on a go pro is awesome to. If you're on the fence about getting this you don't be just get it and be prepared for an addicting thrill. The only downside to this thing is the batteries only last about 10 minutes especially if you have the GoPro mounted.

I love that I can simply turn off the controller and the thing lands itself. It's super easy to fly as well. I would highly recommend watching the youtube videos on the DJI channel prior to your first flight. I've gotten a little carried away twice now and crashed but the Phantom holds up great. Another great feature are the red and green lights underneath. I'm really surprised with how well I can still see them even with the copter very high in the air. It's a very well thought out product, especially for those of us who are new. It's ready to go out of the box!

The DJI Phantom ‘1’ is the best quad for the price! It’s ready to fly (after a battery charge) and so smooth! I've flown a few other quads and I just love DJI's setup – especially THIS version/model. I already owned a GoPro (so I can use the camera for other things - not JUST on the quad.)

So much fun. More power then i thought it was going to have, much more durable then i thought, very responsive controls, i get around 11-13 minutes of flight time, doesn't sound like much but this thing can cover a lot of ground in that time. I have painfully crashed it against a wood pole, and a metal pool heater before hitting concrete, checked to see if props were tight, turned it on and let it idle for about 20 seconds, everything sounded fine and the drone still fly's like its supposed to, the props didn't even break! All these people saying this props are fragile must be crashing it into everything in sight.

It also seems its pretty decently serviceable, most if not all parts can be replaced if broken with little electronic experience.

An idiot could fly it!!!I pray an idiot never owns one though.

All kidding aside, this is a surprisingly easy to fly RC device. When it came in, I actually thought it would be bigger, but it's surprisingly smaller than what I expected.

BUY IT!!!

Don't be nervous about losing it because this device does not "WANT" to run away. You do have it in control for the most part. People who have lost theirs mostly was because of defective unit, Not setting HOME by letting it sit after engine on for 6 seconds, or other issues with transmission, etc. My fear of losing it is gone after seeing how stable it is.

As far as controls, it is 5 stars. Always in control. Just give it a little time and space to turn, stop, slow down, etc.

Overall so far it's been a great experience and after I took a video of my house from 200 feet above my neighbors asked me to click some for them as well so it's all good!!!

I have owned the Phantom for about 2 months now and probably have about 6 hours of total flight time under my belt and yesterday I got a little cocky with flying and lost it in the setting sun than regained sight of it as it was heading due west. I could not regain control of it and watched it fly out of view and back into the blinding sun. Turning the controller off and hoping the GPS return feature really does work was the only thing I could do. I waited a good 7 minuets for this thing to come back and finally gave up, collected my stuff and started heading back down the side of the mountain. as I started to descend I started hearing the blades of the Phantom. I quickly ran back up to the spot I launched it from, did a 360 and saw nothing. Than I looked straight up and there it was a small descending dot in the sky. I could not regain control of the Phantom with the remote so I just decided to let it do what it wants to do and land. I thought this must be what it feels like to be a gambler who lost all his rent money at a casino only to win it all back at the end of the night with a last ditch hail marry pass attempt on a penny slot machine. Seeing this thing return was one of the best happy moments I ever had over a nonliving object.

"DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone Quadcopter for GoPro"

worth the money, does not take advanced flight skills (easier to fly than stabilized helis by far), and offers about 7 to 15 minutes of flight time depending on wind, quantity of maneuvers, and charge of the battery. This is a for sure BUY IT product with good company support and excellent user contributed tips and videos.

The DJI Phantom 3 Professional is easily the best drone on the market at this price, a fantastic new remote control and an abundance of new flying features.
